In August, our Chair, Phil Morgan, who held the role for the past nine years, left his position here at Healthwatch Salford to explore new opportunities. In September, we welcomed our new Chair, Jenni Smith, to Healthwatch Salford.
In light of the government’s proposals to abolish local Healthwatch and therefore remove the only collective, independent and statutory opportunity for the public to hold the NHS and social care system to account, local Healthwatch have put together a petition to protect the independent voice. This calls on the government to review the decision to abolish independent local Healthwatch. We ask for your support in signing it.
Salford Royal is launching a new initiative called ‘Care by Appointment’ that will apply to patients presenting themselves at the emergency department between 10pm and 6am, with minor injuries.
Healthwatch Salford are shocked and saddened to hear the news that the government wishes to adopt the proposals in the 10 Year NHS Plan and DASH review report to abolish all local Healthwatch and move the functions into the local authority (social care) and Integrated Care Boards (health).
Salford's carers emergency scheme has been updated and made simpler. It enables carers to plan how the person they care for will be supported if the carer has an emergency.
To coincide with the new Tobacco and Vapes Bill being introduced we developed this project to explore what the issues are around vaping amongst CYP in Salford and the impact that children/young people, parents/guardians, and school staff believed the new legislation would have.
